Life and Times

A Brief History

William F. "Bill" Hyde

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bill is the son of James B. and Marguerite Hyde and currently a resident of Oviedo, Florida.  Married to his wife, Hope, for many years, Bill and Hope have a daughter, Vicki, and a son, Norman, and two grandchildren. 

 Bill Hyde grew up a few hundred miles south in Hialeah, Florida.  Attending South Hialeah and Twin Lakes Elementary Schools, he graduated from Hialeah Senior High.  After  Hialeah Senior, Bill went to Florida Technical College in North Miami, graduating first in his class.  A 4 year enlistment in the Navy followed with service on the USS Forrestal.   Since leaving the service of his country, Bill has also served his community by serving as City Commissioner and Mayor of Dania Beach, Florida.  During the Dania years Bill worked at Port Laudania as the Novell Network Administrator and also as Port Captain. He left politics to go back to sea as a merchant sailor, and served aboard US Navy Military Sealift Command ships in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Coming back home to "land" , Bill most recently worked as an IT Technician for a small laser R&D company in Orlando.  and has recently retired.

Bill has been and avid motorcyclist for many years, and fan of great Barbecue   During the Dania years, Bill was a part time charter Captain.  With his daughter, Vicki, won the Harbour Towne fishing tournament in 1992.
